Bread for the World Elementary School Advocacy
Letters to Senators
Bread for the World is a Christian Organization in Washington, DC that provides nonpartisan policy analysis on hunger and strategies to end it. It has been educating opinion leaders, policymakers and the public about hunger in the United States and abroad since 1975. Each year, they conduct an “Offering of Letters” to members of Congress.
Elementary School Faith Formation and the OSJ Office recently partnered to introduce advocacy to the youth as a way to put their faith into action, as we are all called to do. With the approval of their parents, the fourth and fifth grade Elementary Religious Education students were presented with the opportunity to sign a letter to one of our Illinois Senators asking them to help provide food to children in need in our country and throughout the world.
The letter
Dear Senator
I am writing to you about hunger in this world. As a follower of Jesus, we care about those who are hungry in the United States and other countries. It is important that we as a country use our abundance to help those in need. When children and families have enough good food to eat, they can grow healthy and strong. Please support bills that helps our country aid those who need good food globally.
